Um, what is MF? You silly

Victor’s been dealing with his Mother appearing back up in his life. All while trying to become a better human being. This has been one of the few Marvel titles I look forward to every month. Bendis seems to actually care about Doom and so far has told an interesting story that grabs my attention. After last month’s cliffhanger, I couldn’t wait to see how Bendis would continue this storyline. Did the hype pay off?

The issue opens showing us the college years with Reed Richards attempting to offer Victor with his work. Victor wants nothing to do with Reed and would rather him go. Reed pushes his buttons until Victor becomes angry towards him. When jumping to the present as Victor continues his rounding up of villains he once would have teamed up with. Things don’t go quite Victor’s way and gets outsmarted by a villain.

During the scuffle, S.H.I.E.L.D arrives on the scene in the attempt to arrest Victor. Their attempts to shut down his armor fails to allow Victor to jet off. While all this is occurring Cynthia and The Maker continue to look on and explaining there is a plan in place and it’s best if they leave Victor the time being. The issue ends with Riri Williams watching the news as Victor causes a ruckus in Pittsburgh. She suits up and makes her way to find out what the deal is.

Now six issues in we've only gotten two pieces of the puzzle in a bigger story. I was expecting the Cynthia Doom and Reed Richards plot to have been explored after the great cliffhanger of the last issue. Bendis is dangling this mystery over our head and has teased me for two issues. Seems Bendis is following continuity post-Secret Wars, which is great to see. Many Marvel books haven’t touched on that event since. All that being said I’m hoping the payoff of the Reed Richards plot sticks the landing. We are seeing a change though in Victor as he isn’t on the top of his game. I’m still at a loss for what this could all mean. As Bendis hasn’t shown much to lead to many theories. Still, there are great Doom moments in the issue and was a fun read. The cliffhanger helps make up for the lack of development and is something I’d been waiting for since this title was announced. I still find myself looking forward to every issue. You can always count on this book looking fantastic with the art collaboration of Alex Maleev and Matt Hollingsworth.

Bits and Pieces:

My expectations going into this issue were high from where the last issue ended. While I was disappointed certain plot points were touched on more. I came out of the issue still enjoying it and look forward to seeing how Bendis handles both story lines. Your eyes will be peeled to the pages as Alex Maleev and Matt Hollingsworth provides stunning artwork.

7.5/10
