*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Now that Tim Seeley is on this book I really hope that we can get away from all the "Willpower Spikes" that this series has given us instead of just giving us a charge like it should be, but really, I won't hold my breath on that.  It's a whole new world though with a whole new writer and hopefully that means that we'll be getting some new and interesting stories that will come together better than they have previously in this series.  Yeah, there's a lot of hoping involved with this issue and really, I just want a Green Lanterns title that I can be happy with and get completely back on its trolley because this was the series that I was looking forward to the most when Rebirth was announced and it just never lived up to the hype that I had for it.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Tim Seeley is the beginning of my hope realized and if this series can be redeemed.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with our Lanterns being ordered by John Stewart to evacuate a planet of underground dwellers........ possibly CHUDs, because their sun is about to go full on Super Nova and take the planet out with it.  While this is most of the issue, with the inclusion of an Ungaran Regent with her daughter on a warship to watch the Green Lanterns in action, (Ungara is the planet Abin Sur was from) we also get Simon and Jessica forced to get jobs on Earth because A. Simon's sister is going to evict him if he doesn't and B. Jessica's therapist thinks it's a good idea for Jessica to get back in the workforce.

So with our issue going back and forth..... and sideways between our Lanterns' mission, their job hunt and the Ungarans, things are spread a little thin here, but we do get an exciting issue where yes, the willpower seems to be continuing to be more important than the actual ring charge, but we get to see our Lanterns step up and actually feel like they are members of the Green Lantern Corps instead of just people rocking rings who don't belong.  The biggest dilemmas in this issues though are the underground people of Mol not wanting to be saved because they believe their planet is their god and if it goes, what right do they have to survive without it and the Ungarans being dumb as hell because they're ship gets damaged due to the Super Nova, which they believed they could ride out, forcing Simon to leave Jessica to convince the CHUDs that they deserve to survive.

In the end, it looks like the job hunt seems to be the least of our Lanterns worries because while Simon sees that the Ungaran Regent's daughter seems to be dying from the injuries she sustained on the warship, Jessica's willpower is dropping while she tries to maintain a construct to keep the people of Mol safe.

That's it for this issue of Green Lanterns and while we're dealing with a lot here and we're spread a little thin do to it, I found this issue enjoyable enough just because we see our Lanterns being comfortable with their rings and their Corps membership.  The art in this issue is pretty damn good and I love that we're actually dealing with Jessica overcoming her anxiety...... at least in part because while it will most likely always be a problem, it's something that won't affect her duties in being a Green Lantern.  I just wish that starting off with Tim Seeley being the writer that we would have had more of a contained story that would have felt a little better paced than what we ended up with here, but overall this is a decent start to this Green Lanterns run.

Bits and Pieces:

Tim Seeley's first issue of Green Lanterns is spread a little too thin because of everything he wanted to jam in this story, but overall I was happy to see that he was able to write these characters well and seems to be all about making them proper Green Lanterns while working on them getting over their problems.  The art in this issue was great and I'm looking forward to what Seeley brings to this series, but also hope that it's a little more contained than what we got here.

7/10
