Love Line

The Justice Lords crossover event was spectacular.  Between this book and the companion Batman Beyond 2.0, Kyle Higgins and Christos Gage have expanded on the Beyond Universe by showing how big and interconnected it is.  Of course, BB Beyond focused on Terry McGinnis and his "street level" adventures in the Justice Lords Timeline, while this book featured League against League in ours. Because of that, JL Beyond was the big fight, huge explosion, pop corn affair and I loved it.  As far as endings go, however, this issue kind of drew the short straw.  The event pretty much ended last week and so did the momentum.  Luckily, Gage takes what could have been a mop up issue and turns it into a study on love, relationships and family. Unfortunately, it's also the end to this great series.

Christos Gage has a couple loose ends to tie up this week and he gets right too it.  What to do with Lord Superman is the main concern and any fan worth his or her salt will know the answer.  However, this is obviously not the last the World (or Timelines)  has seen of him.  In fact, we already get to see the beginning of an awesome and evil future team up.

This leads directly to my favorite JL Beyond character, Zod.  Poor little Zod.  He's spent the series trying to live down the reputation of his Father, Jax-Ur and prove his loyalty.  Then, he found out Lord Superman was his Father.  Lovely.  At least he can be happy that Wonder Woman is his Mother, right?  Of course not.  Jax-Ur used him for evil and Lord Superman and Wonder Woman used him for peace.  No matter the reason, it sucks being used.  Poor little Zod.

The rest of the issue deals with the varying "issues" that popped up during this event.  With all the double crosses and deceptions going on, feelings were bound to be hurt.  They were and it's a bit awkward.  By the end, though, everything seems to be back to "normal" as the Justice Lords head back to their timeline.  What I loved most about the end was how both Leagues still think their way is the best and they just agree to disagree.  Plus, there is a panel at the end that reminded me of the end of "The Empire Strikes Back".  All we needed was Lando dressed in Han's clothes and it would have been perfect.

Perfect isn't a word i just throw around, but Dexter Soy's art comes real close.  Everything looks so good and his character designs are second to none.

While writing this review, it was confirmed by Gage himself that this issue is the last.  I'd like to thank him and Dexter Soy for a great book that I looked forward to reading every other week.  Thanks Guys.  The score below is not just for this issue, but for the entire series which I loved so much.  If this was a hockey game, you'd get all three stars.

Bits and Pieces:

Justice League Beyond 2.0 #24 is a great end to a great event to a great series.  Christos Gage and Dexter Soy have given us so much and I've loved everything.  Thanks guys and I hope you get back to the Justice League Beyond Universe sometime soon.

10/10

  1. sucks we will never get any zod and wonder woman bonding, but as supes said the kid needs time. He is also my fave character from this series along with danica. So i do hope he bonds with wondy if ever some one wishes to bring this series back. I shall miss it though along with the brilliant art.
